Hi, I’m Mike. This is my city.
Most people who know me from my online presence — if they know me at all — know me as “the underground film guy.” That’s not necessarily a bad thing, particularly since I’ve spent the last seven or so years building up that reputation at my website, the Underground Film Journal.
But in that process, I’ve neglected, for the most part, to build up my reputation as a guy who likes and does a lot of other stuff, too. From enjoying mainstream movies and TV shows to developing WordPress skills to livin’ it up in Los Angeles — well, livin’ nicely anyway — I’m angling to share my more personal experiences at this new blog.
I used to share the personal side of my life when I first started producing online content close to a decade and a half ago, which was way back before the advent of social media. However, I eventually made the conscious decision to become more formal and impersonal through the Journal, in an attempt to be taken seriously as a film scholar/journalist/writer/what-have-you. Again, that was a smart move as I have accomplished that goal.
Now I need new goals. I have a few that I’m working on achieving, but my current main goal is to mark my reputation as a serious web content creator beyond just being “the underground film guy.” That’s the reason I started not only this new personal blog, but also the portfolio pages of MikeEverleth.com.
If you click over to this About page, that gives a general overview about what I’ve done and can do as a professional web producer and editor. Just to note, though: As of this posting, the rest of my portfolio site is somewhat skimpy on the details of my web work, but I’m working on filling out those details as quickly as I can.
So, between keeping up with the Journal, fleshing out my portfolio pages and posting on this new blog, I got a lot of work cut out for myself. But, this is what I love to do, so I’m going to enjoy it. Hope you’ll like reading about it.
